Coloradans for the Common Good (CCG) organizes leaders within and between our member institutions to address the pressures families are facing alongside other members and communities.

CCG’s issue campaigns come out of deep listening and the identification of nontraditional leaders within institutions that are directly impacted. Because CCG is a multi-issue organization, our agenda is constantly negotiated and re-negotiated among members. Over the past five years, we have consistently engaged in efforts around Affordable Housing, the Dignity of Work, and Quality Education.

Housing

CCG leaders regularly hear from members of their institutions about the strain that housing costs impose on their families and communities. In response, CCG organized to:

increase funding for Emergency Rental Assistance in the City of Denver from $4 Million to $29.1 Million;
create an affordable housing advisory council in the City of Arvada; and
keep Jefferson County seniors housed after a new owner threatened eviction.

Work

Coloradans for the Common Good (CCG) recognizes the need for safe, dignified work that pays a living wage. Leaders have organized to:

extend pandemic-related job protections to 50,000 meat packing plant and grocery store workers;
increase wages for education support professionals in Jefferson County and Denver;
improve enforcement of Denver’s wage theft laws; and
rediscover our member institutions’ shared commitment to dignified work through the Interfaith Labor Seder.

Access to Quality Education

Quality education is a cornerstone of a thriving democracy and it relies on collective organizing of educators, parents, and supportive community members. Coloradans for the Common Good has:

changed the national application for Comcast’s affordable internet service to ensure equitable access for undocumented families;
passed legislation requiring an “equity audit” of the state of Colorado’s School Performance Framework; and
stood in solidarity with educators as they bargain for fair wages and common sense school reforms to support students.

Institutional Leadership Development

A thriving society depends on strong institutions, including congregations, schools, unions, nonprofits and neighborhood associations. CCG works closely with institutions to train and develop new and existing institutional leaders, so they can be more effective both in organizing and in their day-to-day work in their institutions. Institutional members are the power behind all of our policy wins.
